Queensland Rail West Moreton Recondition Project
River Aus Construction completed sections of the West Moreton Recon project for Queensland Rail.
Sections from 1km to 4.4km were completed over a weekend Shutdown.
Pre Works included project planning in advance, stockpiling 50T of Bulk material 4 weeks prior, SCAC Shutdown, cut and remove asphalt, removal of track, removal of ballast, excavation of existing formation 10,000m3, rebuild, grade and compact formation in layers to QR standards, place ballast bed ready for track crew, vehicle drainage cross overs, asphalt level crossings reinstate after track placement, access tracks and drains reshaped and site clean-up.
All work was completed on time, safely and with a happy client.
Drainage Retention Tank, Coomera
Coops Drainage engaged River Aus Construction to carry out the full scope to construct the Bio Detention Tank on a Development Block in Coomera. Including bulk earthwork, detailed excavation, concrete, cranage, steel fixing, formwork.

Queensland Rail Culvert Renewal, Townsville
Due to recent flood events in Townsville, The Bluewater region QR Railway Track caused water back-up and indicated that the track cross drainage may not be sufficient. In the interim of the hydrology assessment results, the Regional GM had recommend additional drainage where possible in a 46hr closure, beginning 25th Aug 2019 at 9am to 7am, 27th Aug.
River Aus Construction were up for the challenge and awarded the project. Scope of works was included supply of plant and associated support personnel to conduct the following activities:
- Set up work site in line with Queensland Rail and Workplace Health and Safety requirements.
- Clear and degrub site
- Site establishment and receipt of bulk fill and pre-cast materials.
- Excavation, earthworks and removal of failed culvert system.
- Crane lifts with 100T Telescopic crane and 25T Frenna’s
- Installation of new culvert system and associated earthworks.
- Cast in situ reinforced concrete headwalls, wingwalls and aprons.
- Removal/reinstatement of track
- Reinstatement of fencing
- Survey with As Built on completion.
The project was completed on time to allow trains back on track after the 46-hour closure. Cast insitu works were completed under lookout and instruction from our PO (Protection Officer).
We are proud to have delivered this project on time, on budget and most importantly, with a happy client.
Gary, Adam and the team from RiverAUS were engaged to construct a 3000x1800 RCBC culvert in Townsville which was deemed a high priority project due to the existing culvert collapsing and causing flooding to surrounding residents. The project lead time was little yet RiverAUS were able to visit the site, successfully tender and mobilise to site within 2 months and successfully deliver a complicated project with surrounding high risk infrastructure and services in the area. This showed QR that they have a high level of capability and understanding of these kind of works and can be flexible and work with the client to achieve the goals set out by the project and asset management teams.

We engaged River Aus Constructions to complete the detailed excavation and construction of two reinforced concrete cradles to sit the 670T TBM shields that will drill new tunnels for the Cross River Rail in Brisbane. The RiverAus team was highly cooperative and a pleasure to work with throughout the whole project. The team members from River Aus worked hard to achieve results on a tight deadline and was also able to be flexible enough to overcome a few unexpected challenges along the way. The hard work was much appreciated and the end result was a durable high quality product.
